Marvel One-A-Day - Day 103: Fantastic Four
Once I get done with Spidey, I thought this might be my next project. I got the inspiration to draw a Fantastic Four cover, so I think it might look cool all colored up.
Marvel One-A-Day - Day 102: Spider-Man - w.i.p.
In any case, I promised some painted work, but I am not ready to show those off yet, but here are some sketches. Some work in progress - or w.i.p. - if you will. The first post is just some of the loose sketches and roughs I did trying to find a good pose for Spidey. The second post is a more or less finished sketch. From here I've been working on the values and colors, but I am just starting those, so no peaking yet.
Enjoy, I will try to pick up my pace and get to posting colored stuff soon.

Commissioned piece - David Marquez
Meanwhile to tide you over while I work on my color stuff - I went to Austin Comic Con this weekend, and got David Marquez to sketch Emma Frost for me. He is a talented artist who has done some Top Cow and Archaia work, and has some stuff coming with Marvel soon as well. I was really impressed with his Top Cow Pilot Season book, The Asset, so that's why I decided I wanted a sketch from him. Enjoy.
Keep in mind, since this is not my work, please don't re-use it or sell it or anything...
(Actually don't do that with my work either come to think of it, at least not without my permission ;) )
Fewer sketches, more finals
So I decided I'll be doing some fully rendered, possibly inked, definitely colored pieces. I will actually try to mix and match those with some daily sketches now and again as well. The idea is to keep doing art every night, but to just get some more quality work finished as well.
In the meantime as I progress on the larger scale stuff, I will try to post w.i.p., so you guys can see my progress and also so I keep in the habit of posting, but it won't be every night during that time.
Ok, see you back here with more stuff soon.

Marvel One-A-Day - Day 101: Luke Cage
When you need to practice drawing back muscles, who better than Luke Cage?
So I was wondering, I'd really like to do some full colored finished pieces. But I don't think I can do it and keep up my pace of a sketch a night, if I do that. So what do you guys think? Would you prefer to see me finish some colored pieces, fully rendered, maybe even some with environments and backgrounds, that would take me a little longer, until I speed up my process? Or do you prefer to continue seeing something daily?
I'll keep going with daily unless the response for full color stuff is just overwhelming. Or we can do a vote that lasts until Monday.

Marvel One-A-Day - Day 94: Polaris
Polaris, the daughter of Magneto. I had a ton of requests for her. I was going for a little bit of a saucy expression.
Man drawing faces are fun.

Marvel One-A-Day - Day 91: Xavin and Lucy in the Sky
I know I've been spotty the last few weeks, but my travel schedule is calming down, and with the World Series over I won't have any more missed nights due to watching Rangers baseball. So hopefully I can back into my true "once-daily" routine.
This week I want to focus on facial expressions. I want to give my characters more personality, and I actually really like drawing them. Xavin and Karolina Dean from the series Runaways.

Marvel One-A-Day - Day 90: Green Goblin
Norman Osborne, aka the Green Goblin, Spider-Man's nemesis. Out of town starting tomorrow for the weekend. I'll be going to the World Series. Hopefully we can get this thing turned around!
Real Rangers Fan? Here's a Quiz
I am probably the Rangers best pitcher, not named Nolan or Cliff. I carried two teams to the World Series, the Marlins and the Padres, but never the Rangers. Who am I?
I am known for throwing the knuckleball and smoking in the dugout between innings. Who am I?
The Rangers were once caught in the midst of a riot by fans on "Nickel Beer Night" when visiting what Major League city?
I was the victim of Nolan Ryan's five-thousandth strikeout. Then when I was setting a Major League record of my own, Nolan Ryan threw a no-hitter on the exact same night. I never played for the Rangers myself. Who am I?
I was the Manager who took the Rangers to their first ever playoff appearance. Who am I?

Marvel's first Western character, created way back in 1948, was the Two Gun Kid. Recently they brought him back through time travel to be a super hero.

Marvel One-A-Day - Day 84: Phantom Rider
The Rangers won the pennant! And you notice in this image of the Phantom Rider, not only is he waving the Texas state flag , but he is giving "the claw", which is the recognition the Rangers players give each other for a big hit!

Marvel One-A-Day - Day 79: Longshot
In celebration of my beloved Texas Rangers winning their playoff series tonight, I present Longshot! The Rangers have been a "longshot" their whole franchise history, and they remain a longshot to beat the Yankees, but with perhaps a little bit of this mutant's famous luck they can move on to the World Series!

Marvel One-A-Day - Day 78: Trance, Loa, and Dust
These three are among the newest and youngest X-Men. I think its a general attempt to keep the X-Men angsty and relevant, that they add new teen members all the time. Nothing new. Remember Leech and Artie Maddicks? Kitty Pryde? Jubilee? The New Mutants?
On the left we have Dust, she is a Muslim wearing the traditional Burqa. She turns into, well, Dust.
In the center, on the couch, is Trance. She goes into a trance and can project a ghost, or astral projection.
And on the right is Loa. She is a new version of Kitty Pryde, except I think she shreds the crap out of whatever she goes through. She is hell on Sentinels.

Marvel One-A-Day - Day 77: Iceman and Firestar
This kicks off X-Men week. My favorite merry Marvel mutants. And since the X-Men are a team, I am going to make an effort to do several team-ups of more than one character to challenge myself.
When I was a kid, I already loved comics, but the thing that got me into Marvel, was the Saturday morning cartoon, Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends. The "Amazing Friends" were the X-Men: Iceman and Firestar. I definitely liked Spidey, but this series totally got me hooked on X-Men comics. I've been a sucker for them ever since.

Marvel One-A-Day - Day 71: Namor
Sorry Iron Man Week didn't get too far. It's hard to post these when I take trips home, because my folks aren't really wired in at home. No scanner, no computer even. Certainly no internet.
Is it coincidence that I was watching Chuck while drawing him, and he came out looking like Adam Baldwin? I certainly didn't mean for it to happen, but you know what now I can't imagine a better actor to play him in a movie! What do you guys think?
